Memo to Noted Marquette Alumnus Denbo: Time to Start Raising Hell

The esteemed Professor passes this along today:

The NCAA is banning the appearance of "hostile or abusive" - that is, Native American derived - nicknames and mascots from its post season tournaments / bowl games.

Which names are hostile or abusive?

Seminoles? Yes.

Illini? Yup.

Fighting Sioux? Yoo betcha!

And which, oh which, nickname is conspicuous by its absence from the list of offensive names?

Not all schools with Indian-related nicknames are on that list. NCAA officials said some schools using the Warrior nickname do not use Indian symbols and would not be affected.

(That sound you hear is Noted Marquette Alumnus Denbo's head exploding.)

The timing may be off, but if the NIT is successful in its antitrust suit against the NCAA, a freely competing NIT with less insipid restrictions on its tournament's participants could do big time damage the vaunted NCAA basketball tournament.
