I wonder if Barbara Miller of Eagan would consider this an example of making the Constitution “optional”:
Jennifer Farrelly, 19, of East Windsor, has been charged with ridicule on account of race, creed or color and second-degree breach of peace.
You read that right, folks. This young female person has been charged with making fun of another person.
Shall we look at the definition of ridicule: Noun: To make fun of or mock somebody or something in a contemptuous way, Verb: mocking laughter, mimicry, or comments intended to make fun of somebody in a contemptuous way.
I don’t care how rude or obnoxious this chick is; when police can arrest people because they ridiculed another person – for whatever reason – we have sunk to the level of totalitarianism.
Compare this to the Danish cartoon of Mohamed wearing a bomb as a turban. Would the police in Connecticut have arrested the artist for “ridicule on account of religion”?
This is a disgusting example of how Political Correctness destroys freedom. Yes, I said Political Correctness destroys freedom.
When we loose the right to call someone a name, without fear of arrest, we loose the first amendment and, in time, will loose the entire document.
Back to Barbara, I wager she is in favor of this arrest and any punishment handed down by the courts – which will hopefully be overturned on appeal – because to cretins like her, what’s most important is protecting feelings, not freedom.
As I’ve said before: These people are dangerous.
