The Republican congressional plan to drain America first, led by Michele Bachmann and John Kline, is great political theater for November, but will drastically weaken the United States and make us even more dependent on foreign oil.
Foresight would say that we should conserve the oil we have and maximize our efforts for alternatives. But prudence rarely makes political headlines. The more of our own oil we burn now, the more dependent America will become on undemocratic countries with large reserves, like Russia and Iran. Let's think bigger than a sound bite and beyond the next election.
WES SKOGBONERLUND, MINNEAPOLIS;
RETIRED STATE SENATOR
But I decided against it for 3 reasons.
1) It has already been stated many, many times here and elsewhere that throwing money at alternatives while doing nothing to address the supply problems that affect the present day is tantamount to these elitist enviro-commienazis chastising you for not riding a rainbow unicorn to work until they can perfect an environmentally friendly method of beaming you there;
B) The letter writer is the same guy who vociferously counted himself with those who claimed that the streets would run red with blood because of wild-west shootouts and people trying to open beer cans with their guns if the concealed-carry law was passed. Not only was this wrong, but he remained (and continues to remain) mute on the real senseless killer in Minnesota, that has been operating roughly as long as the concealed carry law has been in effect. Anybody with this nearly impeccable track record of wrongness ought to be ignored, not fisked.
VI) While googling around for some of the letter-writer's past stupid statements, I discovered this Photoshoptacular picture:
OMG -- HE'S STANDING IN FRONT OF A FREAKISHLY ENORMOUS BUSH!!!11!!!!!1!!!!
Laughing so hard...can't finish post...
